2017 September Meeting: Lecture on Biophilic Design

Biophilia’s Role in Creating Healthier Human Habitats for All

Lecturer: Elizabeth Calabrese

The concept of Biophilia and its positive influence promoting health and wellbeing in the built environment is trending and it is a required component in both the Living Building Challenge and WELL Building Standard Certification programs.

This presentation will address how biophilic principles, experiences and attributes can be utilized to create healthier habits for humans as biological organisms and how best to incorporate biophilic design into all phases of the design process. The session will also explore how taking an “eco-system” approach to integrating nature, natural systems & processes holistically with human created systems can be extremely effective.
