AIA Eastern Pennsylvania 2016 Design Award Winners & Submissions

This charming installation beautifully evokes holiday magic in the Christmas City.  The thoughtful design is succinctly modern, but delightfully whimsical.  The construct creates a sense of place and community, in an otherwise barren plaza.  The playfulness of the chimes, with its intriguing sound and lighting, and its personalized brass tags could make someone believe that a wish made under it would come true!

This conceptual tour-de-force aims to create a naturally breathing second home in the Texas Hill country for a Bay Area couple.  The elegantly conceived structure makes towering sculpture out of an undulating  clay-tile ventilated double-wall that, together with its adjustable window system, aims to create a naturally ventilating structure.  If the science works, that and the lofty views will make for a sweet perch!

This renovation of the existing Weiler HQ creates a vibrant workplace, that with its rich variety of work and social space is sure to be an energizing influence to this company.  The warm and fresh palette of its materials impart a relaxed human touch of to what is an otherwise highly efficient office configuration.  The engaging character and feel of its diverse array of common spaces evidence a very thoughtful people-centered approach to design.  Dunder Mifflin will never go for this!

The college is with it – that is the message conveyed by the vibrant renovations to Hartzell Hall at NCC.  The relatively modest but strategically incorporated improvements throughout the ground floor refresh and redefine the spaces in a way that does not diminish the existing elements.  The welding Lab is a mechanical visual masterpiece!

It looks like it had always been there – but it is so fresh.  The new retail frontage to this old building is bold, and very sensitive at the same time.  The architects well-interpreted the buildings’ lines to take their cues in placing the elements of their intervention.  It’s all so green, but the red stag pops, and stays in your mind’s eye – the Red Stag pub – Great image-making!
